This will make Tom Holland only the second MCU star to lead four solo movies (along with Chris Hemsworth's Thor), continuing his work as arguably the most popular character in Marvel history.
While many expect Holland's story to continue into a second trilogy after the three "Home" movies, the Spider-Man star has made it clear that he will not play the role forever.
Before his latest movie swings into theaters, Holland once again touched on that idea.

This time, Holland will dive into a street-level narrative after the multiversal mayhem seen in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, taking on villains like Scorpion and Tombstone while dealing with an unexpected mutation in his body.
While many expect Holland's story to continue into a second trilogy after the three "Home" movies, the Spider-Man star has made it clear that he will not play the role forever. Of course, he has no immediate plans to leave the franchise, saying in recent days that he will don the costume for as long as Marvel and Sony will have him. However, he has also looked ahead multiple times to a world in which another actor takes over for him as Peter Parker in the MCU or the mantle of Spider-Man is passed to another character. Before his latest movie swings into theaters, Holland once again touched on that idea.

Joining Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Holland noted that the team has been working on a plan to make this happen "since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home" in 2021. While things are sure to change, he has "a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton," which he is enormously excited to see come to fruition:
"Oh, yeah, there's a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished 'Spider-Man: No Way Home. It's laid out, it's gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it's really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it. But that is the thing that I want to do most in this character, for sure."
While Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's inclusion in No Way Home helped it become a massive hit, the big question now is how Marvel will move forward with Spider-Man when Tom Holland eventually hangs up the web-shooters. The most logical choice would be setting up Miles Morales, who has already found success in the animated Spider-Verse movies and has been teased on multiple occasions in the MCU. Donald Glover's Aaron Davis (known as Miles' uncle) teased the existence of his nephew in Spider-Man: Homecoming before Jamie Foxx's Electro exclaimed that there is "gotta be a Black Spider-Man somewhere out there" in No Way Home.Additionally, Holland previously picked out Adolescence star Owen Cooper as somebody he could see taking on Peter Parker sometime after he vacates the role. While fans still hope to see Holland in one or both of the next two Avengers movies and potentially another solo movie or two, the door to Holland vacating this franchise may be creaking open.Spider-Man: Brand New Day will debut in theaters on Jul. 31, 2026.
