Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the rebel MPs should join the NDA outright instead of attempting to form a separate faction.
He argued that after opposing the BJP for years and then losing power, the rebel leaders now appeared keen to align with the ruling alliance.
Chowdhury alleged that the move to remain separate while operating outside the party structure was aimed at avoiding the provisions of the Tenth Schedule, or anti-defection law.
"If they believe the country's progress lies with the NDA, they should simply join the BJP directly," he said, adding that a formal merger with the BJP would be more straightforward than creating a separate bloc while maintaining a distance from the ruling party.
