Timex has released a new version of its Expedition Field Post Titanium Automatic, with a black IP-coated case.
The watch itself isn’t new (it launched back in 2022 as the Expedition North Titanium Automatic before Timex folded it into the Field Post line) but this is the first time it’s come in a blacked-out finish.

Timex has released a new version of its Expedition Field Post Titanium Automatic, with a black IP-coated case.
The watch itself isn’t new (it launched back in 2022 as the Expedition North Titanium Automatic before Timex folded it into the Field Post line) but this is the first time it’s come in a blacked-out finish.

The case stays true titanium, measuring 41mm wide and 50mm lug-to-lug. Inside is a 21-jewel automatic movement, Miyota-made in Japan, with a 40-hour power reserve. The dial uses Super-LumiNova on the hands and markers for visibility in the dark, with a date window and an exhibition caseback showing off the movement.
This version comes on a leather strap with quick-release spring bars, a step up from the recycled fabric strap that ships with the existing natural-titanium colorway.
It’s the latest sign of how seriously Timex has been treating its Expedition lineup lately. What used to be a budget-friendly, mostly quartz collection has picked up sapphire crystals, automatic movements, and titanium cases over the past few years, all while staying well under the price of comparable field watches from bigger names.

A titanium automatic field watch for under $500 is still a great value proposition. The clearest comparison is Hamilton’s Khaki Field Titanium Automatic, which runs anywhere from $1,075 to $1,345 depending on size and dial, and caps out at 100 meters of water resistance, half of what the Timex offers.
Hamilton’s black PVD-coated titanium version lands even higher, north of $1,195. Timex is charging less than a third of Hamilton’s cheapest titanium option for a watch with a deeper water resistance rating and the same core promise: real titanium, real automatic movement, no battery.
It’s not a one-to-one comparison, though; Hamilton is part of the Swiss-owned Swatch group, so they’re dealing with all sorts of international politics in their supply chains. Add onto that the intangible legacy of the Hamilton brand, and (like most watch transactions, really) it stops being entirely about numbers. That said, Timex is making a strong case.
