According to CricBlogger, the relationship between Dhoni and CSK management has soured.
“The relationship between Dhoni and CSK has deteriorated to such an extent that Thala will not be seen in yellow after the 2026 IPL.
So they ignored Dhoni completely this year, which irked him a lot,” the report quoted a source as saying.

Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles and became the face of the franchise for nearly two decades, did not play a single match in IPL 2026 despite travelling with the squad. The team management has not provided a clear answer as to why Dhoni has been missing from the playing XI despite reportedly recovering from his injury.
There were reports claiming that Dhoni didn’t want to disturb the team combination in the middle of the season, and hence he made himself unavailable for selection. CSK still have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs despite not being consistent this season.

Relationship damaged beyond repair?
According to CricBlogger, the relationship between Dhoni and CSK management has soured. The differences between them had been growing over the last two years. The report claims that the franchise had already started planning for the future and wanted to gradually move away from senior players.
It is understood that Dhoni was unhappy with several decisions taken by the management, especially player transfers involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson, which reportedly happened without his knowledge.
“The relationship between Dhoni and CSK has deteriorated to such an extent that Thala will not be seen in yellow after the 2026 IPL. So they ignored Dhoni completely this year, which irked him a lot,” the report quoted a source as saying.
The source also told CricBlogger that Dhoni stayed with the team throughout the season for his own dignity and will not return for CSK next season even if he continues to play in the IPL.
For the first time in IPL history, Dhoni missed almost the entire season. The report also claimed that he had major disagreements with one of CSK’s top officials, and the relationship could not be repaired because nobody from the management was willing to directly speak with him.
