Wearable tech company Circular has announced two new smart rings, the Circular Ring 3 Slim and Circular Ring 3 Pro.
Add these to blood pressure and ECG features, and it's a smart ring that may challenge some smartwatches.

Wearable tech company Circular has announced two new smart rings, the Circular Ring 3 Slim and Circular Ring 3 Pro.
To stand out from the crowd, Circular has integrated a contactless payment system, and brought back the haptics which were introduced on the company’s first smart ring, but removed for the sequel.

The first of the two new smart rings is a ‘slim’ version of the Circular Ring 3, and it measures 5.9mm wide and 2.35mm thick.
It’s light at between 1.9 grams and 3 grams, depending on the size. There’s a choice of ring sizes between six and 14.
The titanium outer ring is matched to an epoxy underside, and the battery is expected to last around 10 days on a single charge. On the health tracking side, the Slim will provide glucose trend estimates, track sleep, activity, heart rate, and skin temperature.
Circular isn’t saying much about the NFC payment feature, only that it will support Visa and MasterCard, and all you’ll need to do is tap-to-pay. However, it has not announced a partner for the service yet, or said how it will work in the app.
The haptics aren’t for notifications. Instead, they can remind you to take medication, alert you of any health issues the smart ring detects, and also work with the alarm to wake you up in the morning.

The Circular Ring 3 Pro is bigger than the Slim model at 6.8mm wide and 2.78mm thick, plus it’s heavier at between three and four grams.
It uses slightly different materials too, as both the inner and outer ring are made from titanium. The bigger body contains a larger capacity battery, which should last up to 12 days on a single charge.
All the same health and fitness tracking features carry over, but the Pro model gets a single-lead, FDA-cleared electrocardiogram (ECG) feature to detect atrial fibrillation, plus the ability to track blood pressure trends.
It’s worth noting the existing Circular Ring 2 also has ECG and blood pressure trend features, which do seem to require a subscription to unlock, although there's no indication about how much this costs.

If you’re interested in the Circular Ring 3, you’re going to have to wait to find out how much one will cost.
According to the company, ‘availability, pre-order information, and pricing will be announced in the coming months.’
The Circular Ring 2 costs from $350, so expect it to be around the same. In the past, Circular has used Kickstarter as a pre-order platform, and doesn’t have the best reputation for transparency around costs and features.
