Terrifying discovery! Cobra found inside fridge in Odisha’s flood-hit Jajpur district

Residents of a flood-affected village in Odisha's Jajpur district were left stunned after a five-foot cobra was found hiding inside a refrigerator at a house in Khajuripur village under Panikoili police limits.

According to local sources, floodwaters had entered the house, damaging the refrigerator and leaving it unused. The appliance had developed an opening through which rats had begun entering.

The cobra is believed to have entered the refrigerator after being washed into the area by the floodwaters. It reportedly crawled inside in search of prey and was attempting to hunt the rats trapped inside the appliance.

The family became suspicious after hearing hissing sounds coming from the refrigerator. On opening the door, they were shocked to find the venomous snake coiled inside.

The residents immediately alerted members of the Snake Helpline, who rushed to the spot and safely rescued the cobra without causing any harm to the reptile or the family.

The rescued snake, measuring around five feet in length, was later released into a nearby forest in accordance with wildlife rescue protocols.

“Water had entered the house due to river flooding. After the floodwater entered, the fridge stopped working. Mice had chewed into the fridge. When they opened the fridge early in the morning to do some work, they saw a snake inside. They immediately called the Snake Helpline, and I reached the spot. The snake was caught and has been released in a safe location,” said the rescuer.
