Tejaswin recorded a time of 10.98 seconds in the opening event, earning 865 points and finishing fifth overall. Thowfeeq competed in Heat 1 of the 100 metres, finishing fourth with a timing of 11.02 seconds, accumulating 856 points.

Tejaswin, the Indian national record holder and silver medallist in the decathlon at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games, aims to secure consecutive Asian Games medals in the discipline.

The 100 metres race marks the first of ten events in the decathlon, which span two days. Tejaswin is expected to gain additional points in his stronger events such as the long jump and high jump, scheduled later on the first day.

The decathlon programme includes 100 metres, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 metres on day one, followed by 110 metres hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500 metres on day two.

On the same day, India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams will compete for gold medals against Iran at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. The women’s final is scheduled for the morning, followed by the men’s final in the afternoon.

The Indian men’s kabaddi team is seeking their ninth Asian Games gold medal, while the women aim for their fourth title.

Additionally, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will begin her women’s singles campaign in badminton, representing India’s key challenge after the early exit of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty from the men’s doubles event.
