Tata’s EV Dominance

Tata Motors continues to lead India’s EV segment, commanding nearly a 38 percent market share during the last quarter. The company registered EV sales of 8,543 units in April, 10,340 units in May and 12,000 units in June 2026. Aiming to further strengthen its presence in the EV space, the indigenous automaker is set to launch the Safari EV during the 2026 Diwali season, followed by the first premium Avinya sub-brand in 2027.

Tata Safari EV

Spy shots suggest that the Tata Safari EV will feature an advanced independent multi-link rear suspension sourced from the Harrier EV. Built on the Acti.ev+ platform, the electric SUV might share its powertrain with the newly-launched Sierra EV, which is available with 63kWh and 75kWh battery pack options.

On the exterior, the Tata Safari EV will sport a sealed-off grille, redesigned bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badged. Dimensions, however, will remain unchanged. Inside, it could get a new cabin theme with TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) E&E architecture. This system supports features such as OTA updates, a 540-degree surround view camera system, UPI-based in-car payment service, auto park assist, low-speed cruise control and summon mode.

Tata Avinya EV

The Tata Aviyna X will be the first production-ready model to launch under Tata’s dedicated premium EV sub-brand in India. The upcoming Avinya EV range will be designed on Chery-JLR-derived platform, which also underpins the recently unveiled Freelander EV platform. Tata Motors is reportedly considering a three-row premium electric SUV under the Avinya sub-brand, which is expected to arrive in the coming years.
