While Octavia RS and Kodiaq RS announcements took the limelight, the more important announcement was a sportier Kylaq Sportline trim. Based on the standard Kylaq SUV, Kylaq Sportline is expected to introduce a new sporty edge to this sub 4m SUV and put it at an edge over rivals. A launch timeline was not announced by the company, but is leaked now from a recent report suggesting Kylaq Sportline will likely launch in September 2026. Earlier this year, Skoda Auto India unveiled the Kushaq facelift in Cochin, Kerala, and at the same venue the company also made multiple announcements too. While Octavia RS and Kodiaq RS announcements took the limelight, the more important announcement was a sportier Kylaq Sportline trim.

Skoda Kylaq Sportline Launch

In terms of the updates, one can expect similar design treatments as Kushaq Sportline and Slavia Sportline with Kylaq Sportline. Speaking to Autocar India, Skoda India brand director, Ashish Gupta, has confirmed that Kylaq will get a Sportline trim in September 2026 with sportier styling elements.

When asked for a possible Kylaq RS version with a 1.5L TSI engine with around 150 PS power, Gupta mentioned that it is under consideration. This is big news for automotive enthusiasts as Kylaq is already considered as a Driver’s car and a Kylaq RS with a 1.5L TSI engine will take the excitement a couple of notches above.

Kylaq RS is doable as it is underpinned by the same MQB A0 IN platform as Kushaq and Slavia, both of which get this 1.5L TSI engine. Taxes on India’s B SUV Segment favour vehicles with Petrol engines smaller than 1.2L in displacement, but we have Maruti Brezza with a 1.5L NA Petrol engine and is doing exceptionally well, despite the higher taxes and costs.

What to expect?

Sticking with the confirmed Skoda Kylaq Sportline, it is likely to get sporty blackened exterior elements like gloss black wheels, faux skid plates, ORVMs, black badges and door handles, black roof and more. One can expect a sportier spoiler and dedicated Sportline badges. We hope there is a black bonnet too. There hasn’t been a black bonnet in B segment since the Tata Altroz Racer (discontinued).

On the inside, an all black cabin with red contrasting elements on dashboard, red stitching and piping on seat upholstery, Sportline badges and aluminium pedals are expected. Powering the Skoda Kylaq Sportline launching in September 2026 will be the same 120 PS 1.0L TSI 3-cylinder Turbo Petrol engine with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter.

Currently Kylaq is offered in six trim levels – Classic, Classic+, Signature, Signature+, Prestige and Prestige+. Sportline is expected to be positioned under the top spec Prestige trims, which is the strategy with Kushaq and Slavia. More details will be revealed in the future.
