A Sub-Inspector of police deployed for Ganesh idol immersion duty in Hyderabad died after he was allegedly hit by a motorcyclist on NTR Marg early on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, K. Venkanna, was attached to the Kothagudem Two Town police station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and hailed from Thorrur in Mahabubabad district.

According to an officer from the Saifabad police, Venkanna was on duty when a motorcycle allegedly hit him at 1.48 a.m. on Wednesday.
He described Venkanna’s death while performing immersion security duties as an “irreplaceable loss” to the Telangana Police Department.

The deceased, K. Venkanna, was attached to the Kothagudem Two Town police station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and hailed from Thorrur in Mahabubabad district. He had been deployed near Crane No. 2 as part of the immersion security arrangements.
According to an officer from the Saifabad police, Venkanna was on duty when a motorcycle allegedly hit him at 1.48 a.m. on Wednesday. The rider did not stop and fled the spot. Other police personnel shifted the injured officer to a nearby hospital in Hyderabad.
Venkanna’s injuries initially appeared to be minor and he was discharged after his family members arrived at the hospital. He subsequently lodged a complaint with the Saifabad police over the incident and later left for his native place.
However, he developed discomfort after returning and was taken to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal. He died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday evening.
The Saifabad police registered a case based on Venkanna’s complaint and launched a search for the motorcyclist. Videos purportedly showing the hit-and-run also circulated on social media.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar expressed condolences to the officer’s family and said the police department would stand by them. He described Venkanna’s death while performing immersion security duties as an “irreplaceable loss” to the Telangana Police Department. “We will take strict legal action against the accused who caused this tragedy by driving the vehicle irresponsibly,” Mr. Sajjanar said.
