(Reuters)Kosovo’s parliament was suspended on Saturday after opposition lawmaker Time Kadrijaj threw eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a session.
The disruption came as Kurti’s Vetevendosje party continued negotiations with opposition groups over the formation of new institutions following the June 7 parliamentary election.
Kosovo has gone through three elections in less than two years, with political divisions repeatedly preventing parliament from functioning normally.
The opposition Kosovo Democratic Party secured 22 seats.

Kosovo’s parliament was suspended on Saturday after opposition lawmaker Time Kadrijaj threw eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a session.
The disruption came as Kurti’s Vetevendosje party continued negotiations with opposition groups over the formation of new institutions following the June 7 parliamentary election. Vetevendosje emerged as the largest party with 53 of the 120 seats but fell short of the majority required to govern independently.

‘Shame On You’
Kadrijaj, a lawmaker from the opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), walked towards Kurti while he was seated in the front row and threw several eggs at him. As security guards and fellow lawmakers intervened, she shouted, “Shame on you!"
The confrontation led to the suspension of the parliamentary session. The chairperson directed that the live broadcast be stopped while security personnel surrounded Kurti. Kadrijaj later posted footage of the incident on social media.

Three Elections In Less Than Two Years
The incident occurred after Kurti requested additional time from lawmakers to negotiate an agreement on the election of a new president. He was expected to present a candidate for the position of parliament speaker but instead asked for more time, citing the lack of an agreement on the presidency.
Kosovo has gone through three elections in less than two years, with political divisions repeatedly preventing parliament from functioning normally. The latest election took place on June 7 after lawmakers failed to elect a president within the stipulated period.
Although Kurti’s party secured the largest number of seats, it still requires backing from opposition parties to establish a government and appoint key officials. The Democratic League of Kosovo, which holds 18 seats, has emerged as a possible coalition partner, but talks between Kurti and its leader Lumir Abdixhiku have failed to yield a breakthrough. The opposition Kosovo Democratic Party secured 22 seats.
The political crisis intensified after the constitutional deadline for constituting parliament expired on Friday. Kurti had requested additional time for negotiations to avoid another election, while rival lawmakers have threatened to pursue legal action against the request.
Kosovo’s rules require parliament to be constituted within 30 days after the final election results are certified. That deadline has now expired, though the consequences remain uncertain as the constitution does not specify what occurs if the timeframe is missed.
A separate two-month deadline governs the election of the president. Failure to elect a president within that period automatically triggers new parliamentary elections, potentially sending Kosovo back to the polls.
