RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet on Tuesday strongly condemned attacks carried out by Iran-affiliated terrorist militias in Yemen and Iraq against oil facilities in the Riyadh and Eastern regions.
The condemnation came a day after the Kingdom’s defense ministry said its forces had intercepted and destroyed several drones launched by Iran-backed groups in Iraq targeting petroleum facilities.
After the Kingdom called on the Iraqi government to prevent attacks from being launched from its territory on Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi called for an investigation into the incident.
The Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks against the Kingdom since last week and declared a blockade on Saudi shipping.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry vowed that the Kingdom “will take all necessary measures to protect its ships in accordance with international law.”

It also condemned attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and affirmed that the Kingdom will not waver in protecting its security, interests, and national assets, nor in responding decisively to any hostile acts, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Zaidi directed “the competent security authorities to investigate the statement issued by the ministry of defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the targeting of the kingdom with drones launched from Iraqi territory,” spokesman Sabah Al-Numan said in a statement.
The Cabinet emphasized the necessity for the Iraqi government to take all measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launch pad for aggression.
It also acknowledged the stances of nations and international organizations that condemned these criminal attacks, which the Kingdom’s air defenses intercepted with full competence and capability.
In a statement to SPA, Education Minister Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan said the Cabinet reviewed the Kingdom's ongoing efforts, through communication and consultation with friendly countries, to de-escalate regional tensions, ensure the security of waterways in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, and support measures that contribute to regional and international stability.
