Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is an incredibly powerful Wear OS smartwatch (read the full review here). And it’s about to get better with a new update. The company has started rolling out the first software update for the Watch Ultra 2. While it doesn’t appear to bring any major new features, the update does deliver the latest security fixes and should improve the watch’s overall security.
The Galaxy Watch 9 (both 40mm and 44mm), which debuted alongside the new Ultra in late July, also recently picked up its first update, the first of many. And as you might have guessed, it was a security release too. More precisely, we are talking about the August 2026 security patch, which has also hit several Galaxy smartphones in recent days.
Unlike the Watch 9 series, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 comes in a single size with LTE connectivity (there’s no Bluetooth version). The watch is now receiving its first update in the US, with availability across multiple carriers. The update is also rolling out in some international markets. The new firmware carries the build version AZH4 and weighs around 220MB, though the build number and size may vary by region.

Samsung’s official changelog is a bit vague, but we’ve got enough clues hinting at this being a mere security patch with no additional features. The firmware build has an “S” identifier, which usually means security updates (feature updates carry the “U” identifier). Moreover, the update size is too small to contain new features or enhancements.

Nonetheless, if you have upgraded to the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, you should install this update as soon as it hits your unit. This will ensure protection against the latest security vulnerabilities. To check for updates, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone, go to the Watch settings tab (the right one), scroll down to the Software update menu, and tap Check for updates.
