Samsung said the Galaxy Z Fold6 weighed 239 grams, while the Galaxy Z Fold7 reached 215 grams, a target the company said was set to undercut the 218-gram Galaxy S25 Ultra, one of its flagship bar-type phones at the time.
The displays on the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra use what Samsung calls Flex Titanium, built around a titanium alloy film the company said is tens of micrometres thick, or roughly a third the width of a human hair.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which Samsung said shares similar overall dimensions with the Galaxy Z Fold7 and weighs the same 215 grams, increases battery capacity from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also has a 200-megapixel main camera and what Samsung said is the first 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera fitted to a Galaxy Z Fold device.
Samsung Electronics has cut the weight of its Galaxy Z Fold8 to 201 grams, which the company said makes it the lightest foldable smartphone it has produced, continuing a multi-year push to make large-screen foldables easier to carry.

A 2024 YouGov survey that found a bulky or heavy design remained a concern among consumers not planning to buy a foldable, while battery life, durability and display quality were the top priorities for those who were. The company said this shaped its engineering goal of making its foldables thinner and lighter without weakening battery life, camera performance, thermal management or durability.
To reach 201 grams, Samsung said engineers reviewed around 270 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts, trimming weight in increments as small as 0.001 grams in some cases. Of the more than 180 auxiliary part types previously used, about 15 were removed and the remaining roughly 170 were reshaped or consolidated, the company said. The printed circuit board was redesigned to remove unnecessary circuits and reduce its footprint, and the magnetic flux channel antenna was reworked to cut overlap with nearby components.

The metal plate supporting the display is machined to around 0.2 millimetres, with the thinnest sections reaching 0.15 millimetres, which Samsung said required changes to its machining sequence, tooling and cooling process to hold the required flatness at that thickness. The hinge, the company said, is engineered separately for each device size rather than scaled down from earlier generations, balancing load distribution, strength, durability, internal space and weight.
On materials, Samsung said it uses Advanced Armor Aluminum for the exterior frame and graphite with improved thermal performance for heat dissipation, alongside Clad Metal on the rear of the device, which combines the properties of different metals to cut weight while managing heat.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which Samsung said shares similar overall dimensions with the Galaxy Z Fold7 and weighs the same 215 grams, increases battery capacity from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh. The larger battery added about six grams, the company said, which engineers offset with weight savings elsewhere in the device, including a roughly 7 per cent increase in the volume of the graphite heat-dissipation layer compared with the Galaxy Z Fold7. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also has a 200-megapixel main camera and what Samsung said is the first 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera fitted to a Galaxy Z Fold device.
