However, when one of the most acclaimed authors of all time, Stephen King, wrote a glowing review, the rest became history. Now, 44 years later, the horror icons are teaming up to tackle the author's latest feature-length adaptation.
The InSneider reports that Sam Raimi is set to produce a film adaptation of Stephen King's 1996 novel Desperation. Final Destination Bloodlines directors Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky are also reportedly set to helm the upcoming feature, with Searchlight Pictures backing the project. The best-selling novel previously received a made-for-television film in 2006 starring Ron Perlman, but this will be the first time that Desperation will make its way to the big screen. A release date has not been announced, nor has any casting been revealed.
As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Desperation is set to follow a group of people attempting to survive a supernatural evil in a remote desert town. The official logline reads: "Stranded in a remote desert town where something evil has awakened, a group of travelers must fight to survive when a sadistic, possessed cop turns routine arrests into a relentless fight for their lives." Judging by the description, the upcoming adaptation appears to be staying faithful to the source material, which is getting its first live-action interpretation in 20 years.
