Another Harry Potter veteran is returning ot the franchise.

It has been nearly two decades since the Harry Potter movies came to an end, as Daniel Radcliffe's titular character had his story properly concluded on the big screen. While he has not reprised the famous role since 2011, one of his co-stars is about to.

Rupert Grint, who brought Ron Weasley to life in the original film series, is officially set to play the character again, but this time on stage. The star will be seen in Broadway's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in 2027 at New York's Lyric Theatre, as he gave the following statement to the official Harry Potter website about playing the iconic wizard once more:

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life. There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new.

And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting. The first time I saw Cursed Child onstage, I was blown away and I can’t wait to set foot back on platform 9 ¾ and pick up where I left off. I am overjoyed to join this exceptional cast and crew at the Lyric Theatre this winter.”

His run will start on February 2, 2027, and will run for 17 weeks through May 30, 2027. This is the second Harry Potter movie actor to come back through the Broadway play, as Tom Felton returned to play Draco Malfoy in The Cursed Child.

However, for anyone hoping the two film stars will cross paths on stage, that won't be coming to fruition. Felton's current run is set to finish on January 3, 2027, nearly a month before Grint's upcoming return.

Harry used it so often that it became his trademark spell — even using it in his final duel against Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts. ✗ Not quite! The answer is Expelliarmus. Stupefy is a Stunning Spell, Protego is a Shield Charm, and Petrificus Totalus is the Full Body-Bind Curse. Expelliarmus forces an opponent’s wand out of their hand. Voldemort intentionally created six Horcruxes: the diary, the ring, the locket, the cup, the diadem, and Nagini. Harry became an accidental seventh Horcrux, making the total number of soul fragments seven — the most magically powerful number. ✗ Not quite! The answer is six. Voldemort deliberately created six Horcruxes: Tom Riddle’s diary, Marvolo Gaunt’s ring, Slytherin’s locket, Hufflepuff’s cup, Ravenclaw’s diadem, and Nagini. Harry was an unintentional seventh piece. The answer is 150 points. The Golden Snitch is worth 150 points and also ends the match. Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, who produce the play, shared their excitement about having the actor who brought Ron to life in cinema:

“Rupert Grint’s performance as Ron Weasley in the eight Harry Potter films defined for generations what it meant to be a loyal and brave friend even in the face of adversity and hardship. We, along with all the wizarding world fans around the globe, watched Rupert grow up through his portrayal of Ron while preserving the qualities at the very heart of the character – his humor, his bravery, and of course, that unmistakably cheeky grin – like an invisible thread woven throughout the years. In joining our extraordinary company onstage at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, Rupert is not simply revisiting a role from his past. He is continuing a journey he began as a child and carrying it forward with all the life and experience he has gained since filming concluded, including a career that has taken him from film to television to acclaimed stage work on both Broadway and the West End. His return creates a powerful bridge between the story audiences first fell in love with and the story of family, legacy and the passage of time that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child carries forward.”

This announcement is coming only months before HBO's Harry Potter TV show is set to premiere. While Dominic McLaughlin will portray the iconic protagonist, Alastair Stout will play Ron in the reboot, while Arabella Stanton has been tapped as Hermione Granger.
