ASUS has introduced a new version of its handheld gaming PC to celebrate 20 years of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand. Called the ROG Xbox Ally X20, the special-edition model brings several upgrades over the standard Xbox Ally X, including a larger OLED display, more reliable thumbstick technology, and a unique translucent design.
It’s the first OLED model in the ROG Ally series, which is nice to see after we discussed the possibility of OLED with ASUS last year. One interesting decision is that the handheld looks to be exclusively bundled with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, creating a premium package aimed at gamers who want a portable gaming setup with a large virtual display.
ROG Xbox Ally X20 release window speculation
ASUS announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 during Computex 2026 as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations. At the time of writing, the company has not confirmed an exact release date for the handheld. Not even a ballpark date has been mentioned, though current expectations place it within 2026. The ROG Ally X arrived just over a year after the original ROG Ally, and since the ROG Xbox Ally & Ally X launched in October 2025, we might see the OLED model follow a similar pattern, landing in late 2026.
All we know for sure right now is the Ally X20’s specifications and design. ASUS says that additional details, including availability information, will be announced later. Given that the product has already been fully unveiled, more information about launch timing is expected in the coming weeks.

The biggest upgrade is the display. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is the first Ally model to feature an OLED panel. It comes with a 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and support for FreeSync Premium Pro. The screen can reach up to 1,400 nits peak brightness in HDR, supports Dolby Vision, and offers a fast 0.2ms response time.
Powering the handheld is the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. ASUS has also included support for Auto SR upscaling, which can improve image quality and performance – particularly useful when gaming on larger displays in docked mode.
The handheld introduces several control improvements as well. It features new TMR joysticks to offer higher precision and improved durability. There is also a Transforming D-Pad that can switch between a traditional four-way setup and an eight-way configuration for games that require more accurate diagonal inputs. According to ASUS, the handheld also features a redesigned cooling system that directs additional airflow toward the processor while helping keep display temperatures under control.
The included ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses add another layer to the package. The glasses connect through a single USB-C cable and create a virtual 171-inch display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.01ms response time.

ROG Xbox Ally X20 price estimate
ASUS has not announced official pricing for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle yet. However, it is expected to sit well above the standard Xbox Ally X due to the OLED display, anniversary design, upgraded controls, and bundled AR glasses.
For reference, the included ROG XREAL R1 AR Glasses alone carry a retail price of $849.99, so you may have to expect the bundle to cost over $2,000. As of the time of the writing, ASUS is not advertising the Xbox Ally X20 as a standalone product, so we expect it to only be purchasable via the premium bundle.
