After waiting three seasons, Rhaenyra finally takes the Iron Throne, but her subjects and those within King's Landing aren't too happy about her new rule as hints of an uprising and displeasure remain very alive. Showrunner Ryan Condal previously teased the Battle of the Gullet ahead of the season's release:

After two years, season 3 will finally be arriving on HBO, but sad news for fans of the franchise arrived via Condal, who stated that he plans to end the prequel series in season 4. Author Martin's involvement in season 3 has been famously spoken about as the ongoing rift between himself and Condal remain very present due to Martin's vocal disappointment for the potrayal of the Battle of the Gullet as well as major stories being told in the development of the Taragaryen dynasty's history.
However, upon Martin hearing what was to be done in season 3, the author stated, "This is not my story any longer." Since season 3 is the penultimate season, it's unclear how Condal will wrap up the story, including the extremely complicated characters.
House of the Dragon is one of HBO's most popular series, with millions of viewers tuning in when each episode is released, breaking records for the streaming platform. Season 1 holds a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90% and season 2 is rated 84%, but fans are holding out hope for an epic penultimate season of the legendary tales of the Targaryens and their attempts to claim the Iron Throne.
