According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, NBCUniversal has reportedly wanted CM Punk on SmackDown for some time now.
The report also notes sources said NBCUniversal/USA Network has been pushing for Punk to be on SmackDown for “well over a year,” seeing him as one of WWE’s top talents.
One source told WrestleVotes they believe having Punk featured on the SmackDown could help the brand pick up momentum, as the ratings have dropping over the recent months.
Furthermore, a creative source within WWE indicated there are “no indications” Punk will be a short-term champion.
