Reliance Says Solar Wafer Pilot Plant Ready, 40 GWh Battery Capacity on Track

After establishing 10 GW of solar module and cell manufacturing, Reliance Industries is now advancing its plans to set up a solar wafer manufacturing facility. Sharing the company's latest progress during an investor call, Karan Suri (New Energy) said Reliance has successfully executed its wafer pilot plant, marking another milestone in its journey towards a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem. Suri said the company is building an end-to-end solar manufacturing ecosystem spanning polysilicon, wafers, cells, modules, and glass at a single location. It also plans to add gigascale manufacturing and commissioning over the next few quarters.

Speaking about the integrated solar manufacturing setup, Suri said the company is setting up polysilicon manufacturing, the most critical component of the solar value chain. He added that construction is nearing completion, with the facilities now entering the handover phase for startup activities and commissioning.

The latest update builds on Reliance's earlier milestone of commissioning its first HJT-based solar module manufacturing line. The company leveraged technology acquired through REC to establish an initial 10 GW production line, which has been designed for modular expansion to 20 GW as demand grows.

In May 2026, the company provided a clearer roadmap, targeting solar module efficiencies of 26%. It also confirmed that its polysilicon, glass, ingot, and wafer manufacturing facilities are being commissioned in phases as part of its strategy to achieve complete vertical integration.

Building a Renewable Ecosystem At Kutch

Providing an update on the Kutch Renewable Ecosystem, Suri said the company expects to begin installations after the monsoon season as the transmission network in Kutch becomes operational. Reliance plans to start supplying power from the region later this year.

The company is also preparing to execute solar installations at a rate of 55 MWp per day and battery deployments of 150 MWh per day at peak capacity. The round-the-clock renewable power generated at Kutch will ultimately be transmitted to Jamnagar to support Reliance's refinery, new energy businesses, and data centre operations.

Speaking about the Jamnagar Green Energy Giga Complex, Suri said Reliance has already achieved production of around 1 GWp of ALMM-certified solar modules and solar cells. He reiterated that the company remains on track to achieve an annual solar manufacturing capacity of 20 GW.

Suri also said Reliance's battery manufacturing programme is progressing steadily. He noted, "We will achieve 40 GWh capacity this year, and we have announced the scale-up through our AGM to 120 GWh capacity, which effectively positions us as one of the largest energy storage manufacturers globally."

Solar Cell Underway

Discussing solar cell manufacturing, Suri said Reliance has already commissioned several production lines and continues to expand capacity every quarter.

This builds on the company's delivery of its first 200 MWp of HJT solar modules in May this year, which claimed a 10% higher energy yield and 25% lower degradation compared with industry standards.

Reliance has also announced plans to manufacture 720 Wp BIS-certified solar modules as part of its expansion to 10 GWp.
