Range Rover’s newest SV is an homage to the ineffable beauty of black

The deep black hue allows the vehicle’s silhouette, stance and details to become the focal point. Range Rover SV BlackThe exciting new Range Rover SV Black echoes Renoir’s sentiment from a century and a half ago. The car made its North American debut at Design Miami in December 2025, inside an installation titled Dipped in Black, staged in a space inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building—a fitting reference, given that both projects are testaments to what happens when subtlety takes precedence over ornamentation. Further elaborating on this idea of restraint, Martin Limpert, global managing director of Range Rover, says, “The strength of any luxury brand lies in having a clear identity that customers instantly recognise and trust, and we have a DNA that has defined the brand for more than five decades—a reductive design philosophy, continuous waistline, a serene cabin environment. Our design teams do not preserve these elements out of nostalgia; they are retained because they represent the essence of what Range Rover stands for.”

Pierre-Auguste Renoir spent a lifetime building his artistic oeuvre on the shimmer of light over water, on the blues, pinks and greens of a Parisian afternoon, before making a statement that must have irked every impressionist contemporary of his: “I’ve been forty years discovering that the queen of all colours is black.”
