At the "Snapdragon Summit 2026" held on Maui, Hawaii, the event floor featured a demo comparing ANF on versus off.
With ANF enabled, fine-detail resolution was visibly improved, and there was a clear difference in video smoothness, according to attendees.

The system combines super-resolution — rendering games at low resolution and then using AI to upscale them to high definition — with frame interpolation, which uses AI to generate intermediate frames between existing ones. Together, these techniques boost image quality and frame rates while reducing the GPU's processing load.

Two AI technologies cut rendering costs
ANF consists of two features: "Super Resolution" and "Frame Generation."
Super Resolution is a technology that reconstructs full-resolution video from coarsely rendered frames using AI. It references not only the current frame but also past frames, depth information, and motion vectors indicating object movement to restore fine details.
Frame Generation is a frame interpolation technique that uses AI to generate new frames between two existing frames. By combining both, the processing load is dramatically reduced compared to having the GPU actually render every pixel and every frame.
According to Qualcomm, when both features are used simultaneously, the game renders at half resolution and generates only half the actual frame count, while still achieving full-resolution output at double the frame rate.
ANF is available on the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and later. The higher-end "Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6" integrates dedicated "Adreno matrix cores" for AI processing directly into the GPU, allowing super-resolution and other tasks to be completed entirely within the GPU without offloading to the NPU. This reduces data transfer, leading to lower latency and power consumption.
