Prime Video's new detective series is lighting up global streaming charts, and the popular series cements that this is the start of a new era for a major franchise. Prime Video's 2026 TV show lineup has proven itself quite successful for the streaming service so far. For instance, multiple shows of the most varied genres have debuted to millions of views.
Clear examples of Prime Video hits in 2026 are Nicole Kidman's Scarpetta, which adapts a long-running crime thriller book franchise, Guy Ritchie's Young Sherlock, the director's latest venture into the world of the iconic detective Sherlock Holmes, and, more recently, Off Campus, which adapts the first book of a viral romance novel series. All three of those shows have trended worldwide since premiering.
They also share another element, as Scarpetta, Young Sherlock, and Off Campus have all been renewed for second seasons, showing just how much Prime Video believes in the new 2026 shows, which could rank among Prime Video's best series of all time. Now, another new show hopes to get a second season after its recent debut, with the detective series already a major streaming sensation.
Spider-Noir was released on Prime Video on May 29, with the new Marvel series being more of a noir crime thriller story than a formal superhero show. Sure, Nicolas Cage suits up as a version of Spider-Man in the show, but Spider-Noir is more focused on following the private investigator taking on cases than swinging around. Either way, Spider-Noir is a hit.
Spider-Noir Has Become An Instant Global Smash Hit
Prime Video's new Spider-Man series has conquered global audiences in no time, already showing up on the streaming service's global charts only a day after it was released. At the time of writing, Spider-Noir is the 2nd most-watched TV show on Prime Video worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. The Marvel series only ranks below Off Campus, which has had more days on the streamer and saw Amazon reveal that the hockey romance ended up as Prime Video's 3rd biggest TV show debut of all time, with 36 million viewers in its first 12 days on the platform.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout are the only two Prime Video Original series to debut above Off Campus, so it is no concern that Spider-Noir debuted below it. As it stands, the Nicolas Cage Spider-Man series is doing very well for itself. Spider-Noir is trending in 51 countries, going as far as to be Prime Video's most-watched TV show in four of them. The new superhero series' streaming success is aided by positive reviews, as Spider-Noir boasts a near-perfect 91% critics' score and a better 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is universally beloved.
Prime Video’s Spider-Noir Finally Starts A Successful Spider-Man Spinoff Era

Spider-Noir's status as an instant global smash hit is exactly what Sony needed from its most ambitious Spider-Man release in years. While Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies in the MCU have all done well, creating one of the best franchises in the shared universe, the fate of Sony's Spider-Man Universe was the complete opposite. Despite having that name, no version of Spider-Man appeared in the franchise, with movies like Morbius and Madame Web becoming box office bombs. Focusing on Spider-Man villains and smaller characters was definitely not the way to go.

It only took a day for global audiences to show what the path forward should be for Sony's Spider-Man spinoff plans. In parallel to Holland's Spider-Man movies in the MCU, Prime Video could become the home for multiple standalone superhero series focused on different Spider-Man variants. Cage's Spider-Noir feels unique, and other shows could follow suit. The canceled Silk series shows how plans for more live-action Spider-Man-related series are in development, and after Spider-Noir's streaming success, the start of this new era for Marvel adaptations has become clear.
