Welcome to the Jungle (26th May 2026)
First day box office forecast: Rs. 20-26 crore
The third instalment of the Welcome franchise. The original, released in 2007, is one of the biggest comedy IPs of Bollywood, maybe the biggest along with Hera Pheri. Unlike franchises such as Golmaal or Housefull, the series has not seen regular follow-ups, largely due to behind-the-scenes production issues.
Welcome Back, released in 2015, despite having a lesser lead than Akshay Kumar, opened strongly to Rs. 14 crore nett. Adjusted for inflation, that will be equivalent to Rs. 35-40 crore nett today.
Ideally, this film would be expected to open to that level as well. However, the theatrical market today is not as conducive to openings as it was a decade ago. Additionally, while the promotional material and songs released so far have generated interest, the response has not been overwhelmingly strong. This may change with the trailer, and if that happens, the upside for opening could grow significantly, with the IP strength of the Welcome brand.
Other Updates
The trailer for Cocktail 2 was released this week. There isn't any material change to the expectations from the trailer. It will be upon music to make any meaningful impact now. The forecast remains unchanged.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai hasn’t seen any improvement either. The film is releasing with a BOGO offer on the first day, which may somewhat aid the opening numbers. Advance bookings, which opened a couple of days ago, are tracking broadly in line with existing forecast.
