Buchi Babu Sena, director of the latest Telugu film Peddi, has responded to the backlash over scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor in the movie. Starring Ram Charan in the lead, the movie hit the screens on June 04, 2026.
The movie was criticised for the objectification of Janhvi’s character. The Hindu review of the movie observed, “A romance track involving Janhvi Kapoor as a local politician’s daughter further impedes the narrative. Remove her portions and little would change. The overt sexualisation of the character, coupled with some of the dialogues and situations, feels crass. It’s 2026, and Telugu cinema can do better.”
Buchi Babu reacted to the controversy on X. “We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. Cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected,” he wrote.
“After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”

He further said, “I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologise.
As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously.
