Palakkad:A 77-year-old man died of H1N1 in Palakkad, taking the number of H1N1-related deaths reported in the district during the current outbreak to two, health officials said.The deceased was identified as Unnikrishnan, a resident of Erattakulam in Elambulassery.
He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.According to health authorities, Unnikrishnan was admitted to the hospital with fever.
Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed H1N1 as the cause of death.The latest fatality comes amid a surge in seasonal infectious diseases across the district.
Health department figures show a sharp increase in the number of fever cases in recent weeks.
Four dengue-related deaths have been reported in June alone, taking the total number of dengue fatalities to six.
