OpenAI launches public access to ChatGPT Health tool
OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT Health to eligible adult users in the United States, expanding access beyond the limited testing programme introduced earlier in 2026.
The feature is becoming available gradually to logged-in users aged 18 and over across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. It is available on the web and iOS, though OpenAI cautioned that some eligible users may wait several weeks to receive access.
Users can choose to connect to Apple Health, supported US medical record systems, One Medical and Function Health. Connecting Apple Health requires an iPhone.
With permission, ChatGPT can use information including laboratory results, medications, medical visits, sleep and physical activity to provide more personalised responses. Users can ask it to compare test results, summarise changes since an appointment or explore trends across connected data.
OpenAI said more than 300 million people ask ChatGPT health-related questions each week. However, the company stressed that Health is intended to support rather than replace medical care and should not be used for diagnosis or treatment.
Connected medical records, Apple Health information and conversations that use the data are excluded from foundation model training and advertising. ChatGPT asks for permission before using connected health information by default, while users can disconnect accounts and manage access through the Health section.
The consumer Health feature is not intended for clinical use and is not eligible for use under a US healthcare Business Associate Agreement.
Why does it matter?
