The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Tuesday called for a statewide bandh on October 8 protesting the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Amendment Act, 2026, resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
Besides, the party has also planned a seven-day ‘economic blockade’ and demanded the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
Odisha Bandh On Sept 30Meanwhile, the farmers’ rights outfit Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) will observe a statewide Odisha bandh on September 30.
The organisation has demanded strict accountability over alleged irregularities in government-issued textbooks and called for the immediate resignation of Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.

PCC president Bhakta Charan Das appealed to members of the INDIA bloc to join the bandh and extend their support to the protest.

Seven-Day Economic Blockade
As part of the proposed blockade, Congress called for mining, mineral extraction and transportation of minerals to be stopped for seven days. The party has been opposing the MMDR Amendment Act and sought its repeal, alleging that it affects Odisha’s interests and mineral-related revenue.

What is open and close
During the bandh, shops, markets, commercial establishments and other private establishments are expected to remain closed. Public transport services, including buses, may also be affected.

NNKS has appealed to people across Odisha to support the bandh and make it successful.
