Obsession had a sensational 2nd Monday at the Indian box office, with collections surpassing its 2nd Friday. The film grossed Rs. 4.15 crore / USD 435K approx on Monday, around 4 per cent higher than Friday and an outstanding 70 per cent week-on-week surge. Ordinarily, films tend to drop 30-50 per cent from Friday to Monday, but Obsession is having anything but an ordinary run, continuing to defy gravity.
The eleven-day running total for the film now stands at Rs. 46.75 crore / USD 4.90 million approx. It will cross the Rs. 50 crore mark today, with collections expected to grow on account of “Discount Tuesday”. The second week is currently headed for around Rs. 36 crore, which would take its total to around Rs. 58 crore by Thursday.
From there, the film should comfortably cross Rs. 80 crore and likely Rs. 90 crore as well. After this exceptional Monday hold, now even reaching Rs. 100 crore has become a possibility, although there is a long way to go. Furthermore, the film will be facing competition from several Hollywood and Bollywood releases throughout June, so that will be another challenge. Of course, it doesn’t need to hit Rs. 100 crore because it has already done far beyond the most optimistic of the expectations.
