Thousands of football fans gathered to celebrate the start of the biggest sporting event in the world, but it wasn’t just the action on the pitch that had everyone talking. Nora Fatehi turned heads at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening celebrations in Toronto, Canada, with a high-energy performance that quickly became a hit on social media. The actor-singer joined Vegedream and Sanjoy to perform their football anthem, delivering a show packed with music, dance and plenty of star power.

Videos from the event soon flooded social media, with fans sharing clips of Nora’s energetic performance. Dressed in a striking all-red outfit featuring cutout details, the star owned the stage with her signature dance moves. Her look was completed with her trademark flowing waves.

Backed by hundreds of dancers, Nora brought the crowd to its feet with an energetic routine and powerful vocals, creating one of the standout moments of the ceremony.

The Toronto event was one of several grand celebrations organised as the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off across North America. The tournament officially began on June 11 with the opening match between South Africa and Mexico in Mexico City.

The Mexico City opening ceremony featured performances by musical heavyweights including Shakira and Burna Boy. The duo delivered the first live performance of “Dai Dai", the official song of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Other performers included J Balvin, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Alejandro Fernández, Los Ángeles Azules and Maná.

Meanwhile, the Canadian ceremony featured an equally impressive lineup, including Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé and Elyanna.

The celebrations are far from over. In Los Angeles, the United States opening ceremony is set to feature performances by Katy Perry alongside a star-studded roster including LISA, Anitta, Future, Rema and Tyla.

Speaking to ABC News Live about performing in her hometown, Nora reflected on the significance of the moment. “It’s definitely a homecoming for me. It’s a moment in my journey. I left Toronto years ago to pursue my career as an actor, singer, and performer in India. And I said to myself, when I officially come back to Toronto to do something, it has to be groundbreaking and on another level. Imagine now it’s the World Cup opening ceremony, and I couldn’t have asked for a bigger platform."

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest edition of the tournament so far, featuring 48 teams competing across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The competition will conclude with the final on July 19.

On the work front, Nora will next be seen in the upcoming film Kanchana 4 alongside Raghava Lawrence and Pooja Hegde.
