Last year, Suzuki had showcased the Vision e-Sky electric kei car concept at the Japan Mobility Show. The production version has now been spotted in Europe. Suzuki could introduce this new EV in Europe next year. It could be one of the most affordable in the A-segment, with prices starting at around 20,000 Euros (Rs 22 lakh).
Suzuki e-Sky – Design and features
Production version of Suzuki e-Sky maintains a compact, boxy aesthetic. The tallboy profile seems familiar to the ICE-powered WagonR. While the test mule wears heavy camouflage, some features are noticeable such as projector headlamps. The EV has an upright front fascia and slatted bumper section.
Other highlights include sporty alloy wheels, circular wheel arches, flap door handles and a flat beltline. While the concept had futuristic-style ORVMs, the production version is equipped with more conventional and practical units with integrated turn indicators. Windows form clean geometrical shapes, hinting at the EV’s utilitarian character.
Suzuki had earlier stated that the e-Sky is designed to meet everyday commuting needs. It can be used for office travel, shopping or short trips over the weekend. Dimensionally, the e-Sky concept is 3,395 mm long. If this size is maintained with the production version, Suzuki e-Sky could be among the most compact offerings in the A-segment in Europe.
For context, FIAT 500 is 3,632 mm long, whereas Leapmotor T03 measures 3,620 mm in length. Dacia Spring stretches to 3,701 mm, while Renault Twingo E-Tech is longer at 3,789 mm. At the rear, Suzuki e-Sky has C-shaped pixel-style lighting elements. These are largely the same as seen with the concept. Other highlights include a prominent roof mounted spoiler, rear wiper, a wide rear windscreen and flat bumper design. There is very little rear overhang, indicating compact proportions.
Performance, interior
Detailed specifications of Suzuki e-Sky electric car are not available at this point in time. However, it has been officially confirmed that the EV will have a range of more than 270 km. A single motor is expected with power sent to the front wheels. Battery pack could be around 25-30 kWh. Vision e-Sky is based on a dedicated micro-EV skateboard platform.
While the concept was seen with right-hand drive, the test mule in Europe is a left-hand drive model. Suzuki is likely to offer this new EV across multiple global markets. Interior of e-Sky concept offers a pleasing blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern equipment. A multi-coloured cabin, complemented by ambient lighting, can truly perk up the mood.
Tech kit seen with the concept included dual screens for the infotainment and digital console. Other highlights included a wireless charging pad, a squarish 3-spoke steering wheel and a recessed, tray-style dashboard. Suzuki could introduce the production e-Sky model in Europe in 2027. A tweaked version of the e-Sky could be introduced in India as well. Here, it will take on rivals like Tiago EV, MG Comet EV and Citroen eC3.
