New Tata Compact SUV Coming: What We Know So Far?
The upcoming Compact SUV from Tata is expected to be sold alongside the Nexon in the automaker’s portfolio. Industry sources suggest that this new model could be underpinned by the revised version of the ARGOS platform. At present, the ARGOS platform underpins the Sierra, and can accommodate a mid-size SUV. To accommodate an SUV boasting a length lower than 4m, Tata would need to re-engineer the platform. Instead, Tata Motors could develop a new platform that could also be used by the Nexon later on.
Now, the Tata Nexon is already one of the best-sellers in its segment. And surely Tata wouldn’t want to hamper that. So, this upcoming compact is expected to be more of a lifestyle SUV, like the Thar, and less like the Nexon. ARGOS certainly supports the AWD drivetrain, and so it could be offered with the upcoming SUV.
To make the pricing justifiable, Tata might not play with the powertrains. Expect the 1.2-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Nexon to be used with this new compact SUV. But the tuning can be a bit different.
What Else?
Design-wise, expect it to be an upright, boxy SUV with high ground clearance. Being an off-road-biased SUV, it is safe to expect design details like a muscular bonnet, chunky bumpers, and more. Tata has not revealed any major details about this new SUV. But we expect this new SUV to offer features just like the Nexon, along with some off-road goodies.
In terms of features, we can expect this new SUV to offer: a big touchscreen infotainment, a digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Off-road modes, and more in its package.
Expected Launch & Price
While this new compact SUV is in the planning stages, we can expect it to launch by the end of 2028. As for pricing, we expect the model to be priced between Rs. 9 lakh – Rs. 17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
