After years of waiting, Renault India has finally introduced a turbo petrol engine in the Triber. Launched today as the Triber 100PS, the more powerful version starts at Rs 7,84,900 and goes up to Rs 8,99,900, ex-showroom. It joins the existing naturally aspirated petrol range, giving buyers a stronger engine option for the modular seven-seater.
The additional performance addresses a longstanding concern with the Triber, particularly when carrying a full complement of passengers. Renault says the changes extend beyond the engine, with the turbo model introducing its Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP) in India.
Renault Triber Turbo Prices
The new Turbo TCe 100 is available with a manual transmission in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants. The entry-level Authentic remains exclusive to the naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Compared with the corresponding naturally aspirated manual variants, the turbo commands a premium of Rs 1,11,295 for Evolution, Rs 1,09,780 for Techno and Rs 94,550 for Emotion. The entire turbo range stays below Rs 9 lakh.
100 PS, 180 Nm And 21 Kmpl
The new 1.0-litre TCe turbo petrol engine produces 100 PS and 180 Nm. The additional torque makes the Triber more comfortable with overtaking, inclines and passenger loads. Renault quotes certified fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl, combining the stronger output with an emphasis on running costs.
A new Renault Engine Management System manages performance, responsiveness and efficiency. Thermal management has also been revised, including a brushless DC cooling fan. Renault says this allows more precise cooling control and improved energy efficiency.
New Platform And Revised Suspension
Renault describes the Triber 100PS as a comprehensively re-engineered vehicle built around RGEP. Alongside structural enhancements, the changes include revised suspension geometry, front and rear anti-roll bars, MTV damper technology and optimised braking calibration.
Dedicated vehicle dynamics tuning has been carried out for Indian roads. These changes are intended to improve stability, ride and handling while preserving the comfort and practicality central to the Triber’s appeal. The familiar exterior therefore comes with substantial changes underneath, rather than the update being limited to fitting a more powerful engine.
Modular Seven-Seater Practicality Retained
The Triber retains its flexible five-, six- and seven-seat configurations. Easy-Fix third-row seats, sliding and reclining second-row seats, and one-touch tumble access allow owners to adjust the cabin for passengers or luggage. Six airbags and 21 safety features are standard. Front parking sensors, a rear camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system are offered depending on the variant.
Renault quotes up to 625 litres of boot space in the five-seat configuration, along with 23 litres of interior storage. Ground clearance is listed at 182 mm, while independent rear air-conditioning provides vents for both the second and third rows.
Depending on the variant, equipment includes an eight-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a Smart Access Card.
Triber Sales To Get Turbo Boost
Triber is Renault’s biggest volume contributor, accounting for approximately 54% of the brand’s August sales. The turbo version therefore strengthens a crucial product for Renault, potentially attracting buyers who valued its seven-seat flexibility but wanted stronger performance. Whether that translates into sustained sales growth will depend on customer response to the additional performance and price premium.
