Kia India is working to make their portfolio as diverse as possible. The company offers Syros and Seltos in the B Segment, Seltos and Carens family in the C segment and the big boy Carnival MPV. There was a gap between Seltos, Carens and Carnival, which will be filled in with Sorento, positioned as their flagship ICE SUV.
Pre-Bookings of Sorento has been open for some time now and Kia unveiled the India-spec Sorento yesterday in pictures and then a TVC. It will be locally manufactured at their Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh. One of the key highlights is Kia AI Assistant, offering real-time information and intelligent assistance on the move. New Kia Sorento TVC
For starters, there is a matte black type colour which lends Sorento a sophisticated look. The roof rails for the Indian model are functional tall ones, which lend a unique aesthetic and seems intentional. The wheels get a dual-tone machined look and they fill up the arches nicely.
We get a large Tiger Nose grille, vertically stacked LED headlight setup, StarMap LED DRLs that are not connected (for a change), stacked LED fog lights along with aero channels to cool down the brakes and smooth air flow. Side silhouette is strong and muscular, which should work in Sorento’s favour.
At the rear, we can see conventional LED tail lights that are not connected, which is a breath of fresh air. Roof mounted spoiler, powered tailgate and muscular bumper with skid plate are notable. The particular model shown in the TVC is a Hybrid, which is Kia’s first for Indian market. Also, it gets AWD setup on top of being a Hybrid, which is a unique combination.
Inside, we can see standout features like Beige leather upholstery with nice stitching, three row of seating, a panoramic sunroof, a digital IRVM, powered seats with memory and massaging feature (likely for front row), and a layered dash, dominated by a panoramic panel housing two 12.3-inch screens (infotainment and instrumentation).
What to expect?
Below the infotainment screen is Kia’s smart hybrid controls that can switch between audio and climate controls with the press of a button. Three-zone climate control, ventilated seats, wireless charging pads, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, sun shades, digital key and other attributes are expected. A flexible boot which decent storage even with all-three rows up, is likely too.
Powertrains wise, Kia Sorento for India will come with a Strong Hybrid setup, a first for Kia India. This Hybrid powertrain is also mated to AWD system for enhanced capabilities. A 2.2L Turbo Diesel engine with around 200 bhp will also be offered with Sorento.
