Hyundai and Kia have had platform sharing for quite some time now. Even though they’re same underneath, both Hyundai and Kia versions maintained different equipment, design, dimensions and features list as these companies like to fine-tune their respective versions distinct and in-line with their ethos and family DNA.
That said, badge-engineering is not something we’re familiar from Hyundai and Kia and it was interesting to see this in action. We’re talking about the just unveiled Hyundai Neira electric MPV, which is a badge-engineered version of Kia Carens Clavis EV with minimal changes to set itself apart.
Hyundai Neira Vs Kia Clavis EV
At the 2026 GIIAS event held in Indonesia, Hyundai unveiled their new electric MPV called Neira. It is a badge-engineered version of Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Hyundai Neira is expected to make its way to Indian market as well. Currently, Hyundai Neira is unveiled as a prototype for the Indonesian market without any confirmation for Indian market.
At the same 2026 GIIAS event, Kia Carens Clavis EV was also showcased. In the pictures by Indra Fathan, we can see a detailed comparison between both vehicles at similar angles. These pictures lend us an idea of just how similar or just how similar these vehicles are. First thing we noticed is that Neira has more chrome over Clavis EV, but lacks fog lights, which Kia offers.
From these pictures, we can see that the front bumper is entirely new, making for a new fascia. Front grille has horizontal slots on them for a unique look, reminding us of Alcazar’s grille. There’s a larger Silver bull-bar-like element at the front. Towards the side, we can see unique alloy wheels design and then slightly different Silver elements on side body claddings.
At the rear again, we can see slightly different Silver elements in rear bumper to establish visual distinction. Other than that, there is no difference between Hyundai Neira and Kia Carens Clavis EV. Silhouette, connected LED headlights, connected LED tail lights, ORVMs, window area, sheet metal and other attributes are identical.
Identical Interiors
On the inside, both Hyundai Neira and Kia Carens Clavis EV share the same dashboard, steering wheel, floating centre console, gear selector, climate control panel, infotainment screen, TFT instrument cluster, seating layout, even the seat cushioning, the manual boss mode and other attributes are identical.
Hyundai has its quad dot logo on steering wheel instead of Kia logo. Interior theme for Kia Carens Clavis EV showcased at 2026 GIIAS is lighter, while Hyundai Neira has a Black theme going for it. Powertrain details for Indonesia are not yet revealed, but are expected to get the same 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery options with up to 490 km of range on a single charge.
