A day after Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia played video clips of a purported WhatsApp conversation between two individuals allegedly negotiating a deal to facilitate the release of social media influencer and rape accused Gurinder Singh alias Guri Chahal, the individual in question, identified as Simranjit Singh Hundal, has distanced himself from the controversy.

Hundal said politicians were free to engage in “cheap politics”, but should refrain from dragging his name into the controversy, failing which he would take legal recourse.
The development came hours before a delegation of SAD leaders, including party president Sukhbir Badal, Bikram Majithia, Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, Daljit Cheema and Sikandar Maluka, was scheduled to meet Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Lok Bhawan, Chandigarh, demanding a high-level CBI inquiry into allegations of large-scale corruption in the Chief Minister’s Office.
The National Human Rights Commission had also stepped into the controversy, issuing notices to the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police over a complaint concerning the alleged Rs 5 crore demand to suppress the rape case.
Majithia, while sharing the purported clips, demanded a CBI probe.
During a press conference, Majithia claimed that the individual heard in the conversation with a conduit was Hundal and that the conduit, who allegedly sought a Rs 5 crore bribe to settle the matter involving the rape case and other police complaints, was related to the CM’s wife.
The AAP denied the allegations. AAP leader Kuldeep Dhaliwal said the SAD was stooping to “petty politics” and concocting tales. He demanded evidence to substantiate the allegations.
