My wife is pregnant: Bengaluru man stages road protest over Governor's convoy

The commuter was travelling with his pregnant wife when traffic was brought to a standstill to facilitate the Governor's movement. My wife is pregnant, and you've stopped us at the signal. The Governor hasn't even come out of the airport yet, but you've stopped us here," he said. The traffic officer attempted to calm him down, assuring him that he was important and repeatedly requesting him to clear the road. Faced with the possibility of further intervention, the man eventually ended his protest, returned to his vehicle and cleared the road.

High drama unfolded on Bengaluru's Old Airport Road on Monday morning when a man, frustrated by a traffic blockade for Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's convoy, sat down in the middle of the street to protest.

The commuter was travelling with his pregnant wife when traffic was brought to a standstill to facilitate the Governor's movement. Upset over the prolonged wait, he stepped out of his car and staged a non-violent protest, drawing immediate attention from traffic police personnel stationed at the spot.

Videos of the incident showed the man seated on the road as a traffic officer repeatedly urged him to move and warned him of possible action if he refused.

The man, however, questioned the rationale behind the traffic restrictions.

"I have work too. My wife is pregnant, and you've stopped us at the signal. Have you blocked the road because of the Governor? The Governor hasn't even come out of the airport yet, but you've stopped us here," he said.

He then posed a question that struck a chord with many commuters frustrated by VIP movement restrictions.

"Is only the Governor a VIP? Are we nobody?" he asked. The traffic officer attempted to calm him down, assuring him that he was important and repeatedly requesting him to clear the road. The commuter, however, insisted that traffic should be allowed to move.

The standoff continued for a few minutes before the officer called for a police patrol vehicle. Faced with the possibility of further intervention, the man eventually ended his protest, returned to his vehicle and cleared the road.

The incident has once again reignited debate over traffic restrictions imposed on VIP movements in major cities, particularly when they affect ordinary commuters during peak travel hours.
