Mumbai Indians are taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in their 13th league match of IPL 2026. The high-voltage match between the two former IPL champions is taking place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (May 20). Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is back for Mumbai, and he is leading the Mumbai-based franchise against KKR.
The 32-year-old all-rounder from Vadodara missed MI’s last three IPL 2026 matches due to injury related issues. In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav led MI in IPL 2026 matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 4 and May 10 respectively, whereas Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL captaincy debut against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on May 16.
Hardik’s return as captain on Wednesday has helped Mumbai Indians become second team in the IPL to have three different captains in three consecutive games.
The only other instance of a team having three different captains in three successive games in a season was Pune Warriors India in 2013, led by Ross Taylor, Angelo Mathews and Aaron Finch.

Forgetful season for MI
The ongoing 2026 edition of the IPL is a forgettable one for the Mumbai Indians. They have managed to secure only 4 wins in 12 matches played so far. With just 8 points from 12 matches, MI are 9th in the points table and already out of the IPL 2026 playoffs race.
Even if MI manage to get the better of KKR in Kolkata on Wednesday, there will be not change in their position in the IPL 2026 points table.
