India is expected to receive below-average rainfall over the next two weeks, especially in central and northern regions, as “western disturbances” have slowed the progress of the annual monsoon, two senior weather bureau officials told Reuters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (June 11, 2026) issued a red alert for Delhi for the next few hours through the night, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The weather department also said the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in parts of Jharkhand within the next two to three days.
Elsewhere, the IMD has also issued an orange alert warning of very heavy rains for Kerala’s Idukki and Ernakulam on Friday (June 12, 2026), while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod districts have been put on yellow alert, where isolated heavy rain is likely.
