Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced commercial production at the fourth plant (Plant D) of its Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat, marking a major milestone in the company’s manufacturing expansion journey.
With the commissioning of the new plant, Maruti Suzuki’s overall manufacturing capacity in India has increased to 2.9 million units annually.
Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Gujarat has become a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Maruti Suzuki, supported by strong infrastructure and a progressive industrial ecosystem.
In March 2024, Maruti Suzuki commissioned India’s first automobile in-plant railway siding at the facility under the Prime Minister’s GatiShakti programme.
Beyond manufacturing, Maruti Suzuki continues to contribute to regional development through its CSR initiatives in Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced commercial production at the fourth plant (Plant D) of its Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat, marking a major milestone in the company’s manufacturing expansion journey. With the addition of Plant D, the facility’s annual production capacity has increased from 750,000 units to 1 million units, making it the first Suzuki manufacturing location globally to achieve this scale.
The expansion further strengthens Hansalpur’s position as India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location. With the commissioning of the new plant, Maruti Suzuki’s overall manufacturing capacity in India has increased to 2.9 million units annually.
Plant D has been developed with an estimated investment of ₹3,900 crore, taking the cumulative investment in the Hansalpur facility to approximately ₹25,288.7 crore. The new plant will initially manufacture Maruti Suzuki’s flagship Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, supporting the company’s focus on expanding its electric vehicle portfolio.
The Hansalpur facility currently manufactures popular models including FRONX, Baleno, Swift, and e VITARA. The plant has also emerged as a key export hub for Maruti Suzuki, contributing nearly 47% of the company’s total overseas vehicle shipments during FY 2025-26.
Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Gujarat has become a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Maruti Suzuki, supported by strong infrastructure and a progressive industrial ecosystem. The commencement of production at Hansalpur Plant D strengthens our ability to meet growing customer demand in India and international markets while advancing our vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’.”
He added, “The Hansalpur facility, along with the upcoming Sanand expansion in Gujarat, will play an important role in achieving our long-term objective of producing 4 million vehicles annually in India. These investments will strengthen manufacturing capabilities, create employment opportunities, enhance exports, and contribute to India’s growth as a global automotive hub.”
Hansalpur has also become a benchmark for sustainable logistics. In March 2024, Maruti Suzuki commissioned India’s first automobile in-plant railway siding at the facility under the Prime Minister’s GatiShakti programme. Since the start of railway dispatches in March 2023, more than 750,000 vehicles have been transported through this facility, helping reduce carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and road congestion. In February 2026, the Gujarat in-plant railway siding became the world’s first modal shift transportation project registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard programme.
Beyond manufacturing, Maruti Suzuki continues to contribute to regional development through its CSR initiatives in Gujarat. The company has established Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing at Mehsana and Gandhinagar, training more than 1,200 students, while also developing Advanced Manufacturing Labs and Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres to strengthen industry-ready capabilities. The company has also invested in education and healthcare infrastructure, including a CBSE school in Sitapur serving over 800 students and a multi-specialty hospital providing affordable healthcare services to more than 1.5 lakh people across 400 villages.
Through manufacturing expansion, skill development, sustainability initiatives, and community development programmes, Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen India’s automotive ecosystem while supporting the country’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing destination.
