Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has said that even if India go on to win the upcoming T20I series in England, the loss to Ireland will need to be questioned, adding that ‘PR agencies’ of the ‘decision maker’ will now shift the blame to captain Shreyas Iyer and not take responsibility themselves.

India suffered a 34-run loss to Ireland in the series opener in Belfast before going down by a solitary run in the must-win second T20I, slumping to their first bilateral T20I series defeat since mid-2023.

India will now head to England, where they will play five T20Is and three ODIs beginning July 1 at Chester-le-Street.

“India might go on to win the World Cup in South Africa. India might also win the T20I series against England," Tiwary said while speaking in a video on his X account.

“But what about the T20I series lost against Ireland? Who is going to be accountable for it? I told you to address the elephant in the room, but no one believed my words," Tiwary said.

“I know that PR agencies and friends of the so-called decision-maker will start pinpointing the blame on Shreyas Iyer," Tiwary added.

Meanwhile, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi remained on the sidelines throughout the Ireland tour as the team management persisted with the existing opening combination. Many had expected him to make his historic debut, viewing the series as an ideal chance to ease him into international cricket.

“Why won’t you play him in the playing XI from the first game itself? Rather, you chose to go with the ones who did well in the World Cup that happened before the IPL," Tiwary said.

“Your so-called part-time obsession (Washington Sundar) has not lived up to your expectations, so that is why you just made him play one game," Tiwary added.
