Main Vaapas Aaunga had an abysmal first day at the Indian box office, collecting just about Rs. 1.25 crore nett approx. The film was the main Hindi release of the week, yet its opening day collections were half of Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, a film that came in with virtually no expectations and carried B-movie-level production values. The two other releases, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata and Governor, which have lower costs, also managed similar numbers as MVA.
The film wasn’t expected to be an opener, but these numbers are just way too low for even the low expectations, even more so for the costs and faces involved. Then there is Diljit Dosanjh, who can deliver these numbers and more from East Punjab alone. While East Punjab was relatively better than others, at this level of numbers it hardly matters.
This opening leaves the film nowhere to go, as you would need a miraculous turnaround from word of mouth, which doesn’t seem to be the case from the initial reports. The advances for day two are barely better than opening day, so the growth is not expected to be big or anything. The first weekend will likely wrap inside Rs. 5 crore nett, and it could be a struggle to reach Rs. 10 crore nett in full run.
