Family members of the accused alleged that Deendayal frequently visited their residence in an intoxicated state and often assaulted Neelam while pressuring her to return to her matrimonial home.

On the day of the incident, they claimed he again arrived drunk and physically attacked her. In response, Neelam allegedly retaliated and assaulted him, resulting in fatal injuries.

After the incident, Neelam reportedly went to the local police station herself and informed authorities. A police team subsequently reached the spot and found Deendayal lying dead. His body was sent for post-mortem examination, and a case was registered.

According to preliminary information, Deendayal, a resident of Angor village, had married Neelam around eight years ago.

However, the couple had been living separately for nearly four years following persistent marital disputes. Their divorce case was reportedly pending before a court, with the next hearing scheduled for June 13.

Speaking about the couple's troubled relationship, Neelam's mother, Rani Kushwaha, said, "The dispute between the couple had been going on for a long time. He used to drink a lot and beat her up. Whenever he came to our house, he used to create ruckus. Yesterday, my husband and I had gone out when this happened. Things had not been going well between them for the past four to five years".

Confirming the development, senior police officer Ashutosh Shrotiya said, "We received information that a man named Deendayal Kushwaha has been killed. An FIR has been registered and an investigation into the matter has been launched. His wife has confessed to her crime. We are continuing with the interrogation".

He further added, "The woman told the police that her marriage was troubled, and the couple were also looking to file for a divorce due to their domestic discord".

Police said the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined while forensic evidence is being collected.
