Tragedy on Love & War set.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War has been one of Bollywood’s most talked-about upcoming films. But this week, the film found itself in the news for a heartbreaking reason after a worker reportedly lost his life while working on the set in Mumbai.
According to the Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU), 42-year-old carpenter Chandradhari Yadav died on the sets of the Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer at Royal Pump Studio in Goregaon East. The incident reportedly took place around 3 am on June 17.
Reports suggest that a short circuit may have led to the accident, although the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Yadav is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Following the tragedy, worker unions stepped in to seek support for the family. As per a report in The Times of India, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and FSSAMU jointly approached the producers of the film and requested financial assistance. Bhansali Productions has reportedly agreed to provide Rs 40 lakh as compensation to Yadav’s family.

Speaking to the publication, FWICE president B.N. Tiwari said, “Apart from monetary compensation, we have requested the producer to take responsibility for the children’s education. Workers are often made to work far beyond the prescribed eight to ten hours, and there is a limit to how much a person can physically stretch themselves at work. Once the post-mortem report comes, we will decide our next course of action. No matter how big the producer is or how big a film is being made, workers’ lives cannot be put at risk."
FWICE general secretary Ashok Dubey also shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. “Chandradhari had been working continuously on the set for the past three days and had been on duty from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. on the day of the incident. According to those present, he suffered an electric shock and was rushed to a hospital, where he passed away. We have also written to Mr. Bhansali requesting employment for his wife in his production house."
For now, Bhansali Productions has not issued an official statement on the matter.
The incident comes at a time when Love & War is deep into production. The film marks Bhansali’s first collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor since Saawariya and brings together Ranbir, Alia and Vicky in what is being billed as one of the biggest Bollywood releases in recent years.
The film’s journey to the big screen has also seen a few delays. Originally expected to release earlier, Love & War is now scheduled to hit theatres on January 21, 2027. Bhansali had initially planned a Summer 2026 release, but production timelines were pushed back. Ranbir Kapoor later confirmed during an Instagram Live session that the film would arrive after Ramayana Part One releases in October.
The makers are also reportedly going all out to keep details from leaking. According to Hindustan Times, “Over 500 NDAs have already been signed or are currently in process, ensuring that information, visuals, or material from the sets do not make their way into the public domain."
Despite the secrecy, excitement around the film remains sky-high. In an interview with News18 Showsha, Alia Bhatt spoke about what makes the project special for her. “I, as an audience, am more excited to see him [Bhansali] and Ranbir collaborate again after so many years. I am like, ‘Wow, what’s that going to be like?’"
She also opened up about sharing screen space with Vicky Kaushal once again. “Vicky and I coming together again; Ranbir and Vicky created magic with Sanju. So, it is a lot of combinations," she said.
Away from Love & War, all three stars have packed schedules ahead. Ranbir Kapoor is gearing up for Ramayana, Alia Bhatt is waiting for the release of Alpha alongside Sharvari, and Vicky Kaushal is set to begin work on Mahavatar, where he will play Chiranjeevi Parashurama.
