Víctor Muñoz scored his first Premier League goal as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Forest twice took the lead, first through Dan Ndoye and then a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty as they searched for a third consecutive win at Liverpool, though Alexander Isak and Munoz struck to clinch a draw for Andoni Iraola’s side.

Liverpool struggled to cope with Forest’s early pressure and had Jérémy Jacquet to thank as he denied Igor Jesus with a last-ditch block in the six-yard box, while Ndoye missed the target with a header from James McAtee‘s deep cross.

However, Ndoye curled into the bottom-right corner in the 24th minute after Liverpool were undone by Matz Sels‘ long ball down the middle, which eventually led to Gibbs-White teeing up his teammate.

Wirtz thought he levelled for Liverpool just eight minutes later as he finished on the swivel, but the goal was ruled out due to an offside against Jeremie Frimpong in the build-up, while the German also saw a header palmed over by Sels before half-time.

Alisson expertly kept out Jesus’ first-time effort before the break, and it proved crucial as Isak levelled on the hour after Cody Gakpo spun past Neco Williams and picked out the Swede with a low centre.

However, the Brazilian conceded a penalty 10 minutes later as he brought down Williams, who capitalised on a quick throw-in from Liam Delap, and Gibbs-White made no mistake from 12 yards out.

But just as he did against Newcastle United last weekend, Munoz made the crucial impact for Liverpool, scoring his first goal for the club with a stunning strike on the turn to restore parity in the 82nd minute.

Munoz Dampens Forest’s Annual Anfield Fun

Liverpool looked set for defeat as the rain drizzled down at Anfield, but Munoz had other plans and instead became the Reds’ latest Spanish star.

Munoz is the 11th different Spanish player to score for Liverpool in the Premier League, the joint-most at one club in the competition (level with Manchester City), while he also led his teammates in shots (four), attempted dribbles (six) and duels contested (17).

Nevertheless, Iraola will still see this as two points dropped; Liverpool have failed to win either of their opening two Premier League games in a season (D2) for only the second time in the last 14 campaigns, also doing so in 2022-23 when they started with two draws.

Forest will argue they deserved more than just a draw, accumulating 2.3 expected goals (xG) to Liverpool’s 1.61, while Gibbs-White enjoyed another Anfield outing.

He now has three goals and two assists at Anfield in the Premier League, his most involvements at an away venue. He is also the only player in Premier League history with multiple goals and multiple assists at both Anfield and Old Trafford (two goals, two assists) as a visiting player.

And in 2026, only Bruno Fernandes (four goals, 14 assists) has been involved in more Premier League goals than Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White (13 goals, four assists), with Gibbs-White’s 13 goals the most of any player this calendar year.

Liverpool will be desperate to turn their draws into a win when they face Ipswich Town in their next league match, while Oliver Glasner’s Forest host Tottenham next weekend.
