There is a palpable energy when Kiara Advani walks into a room. As she enters the studio for Femina’s shoot, her warmth is evident. It’s a Tuesday evening, and the space is alive with vibrant backdrops that play with colours and light. The moment the shoot begins, she immerses herself completely. Her enjoyment is obvious. Until the end, hours later, she remains deeply involved in the creative process, investing time and feedback into every look, paying close attention to every detail.Outfit: Namrata JoshipuraThe last few years have been exciting and life-changing for our cover star. She has had one commercial hit after another, with roles that often become conversation starters. Somewhere along the way, she also found love, and marriage and motherhood followed. But, as we chat, a recurring theme reveals itself. For Kiara, it is her ability to be multidimensional that excites her the most. From Megha in the romance drama Lust Stories (2018) to Dimple in the war drama Shershaah (2021) and Katha in the rom-com Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023), she has portrayed women who have left a lasting impact in different ways. “I don’t like stereotyping women in a box,” she says. “We are so much more than that, so why shouldn’t our characters be?”Have any of the characters she played changed her as a person, though? “I’ve never believed that entertainment and substance have to be mutually exclusive,” she answers. She has consistently worked on balancing that ethos with every role to the best of her ability. The characters she has played have had ambition without being apologetic, and, in them, softness and strength have co-existed. And then, of course, there have been some that have been glamorous and inaccessible. “Every role I’ve played until now has a little bit of me, and from each character I’ve taken a little something into my own life,” Kiara enthuses. Where Megha challenged her perceptions and made her fearless, Dimple taught her resilience and unconditional love, and then, “Katha probably changed me the most because she carried so much emotional weight while finding her own voice,” she reveals.
