A 50-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Kolkata Police has been arrested after being accused of sexually harassing a 21-year-old woman who was volunteering at a Durga Puja pandal in the city.
Kabirul was taken into custody after the viral video surfaced and a formal complaint of sexual harassment was lodged against him by the volunteer.
In the video, he appears to be touching the woman inappropriately while she is seated on a chair on a busy street.
The incident allegedly took place a little before midnight near the exit gate of New Alipore's Suruchi Sangha Durga Puja pandal, where the complainant was stationed.
According to the FIR, the incident took place between 11 pm and 11.30 pm on October 17 at the exit gate of the Suruchi Sangha puja pandal, where the 21-year-old survivor was on volunteer duty.
