RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Sunday said it intercepted three drones after they entered its territory from Iraqi airspace.
Al-Maliki added it will also take action to ensure the safety of citizens and residents on Saudi territory.
While hostilities during the Iran conflict have largely been scaled down since a ceasefire came into effect in April, drones have been launched from Iraq towards Gulf countries.
Iraq’s Foreign Ministry also said in its statement that Iraqi air defenses had not detected any drones being launched in the country’s airspace.
Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, the GCC’s Secretary-General, also condemned the attack, and affirmed Saudi Arabia’s security was an integral part of the regional bloc’s broader security.

The Kingdom’s defense ministry spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki said that it would take the necessary operational measures to respond to any attempt to violate its sovereignty and security.
Al-Maliki added it will also take action to ensure the safety of citizens and residents on Saudi territory.

On Monday, Iraq said it was investigating the circumstances around the drone attack.

Qatar has condemned attempts to target Saudi Arabia and expressed Doha’s support for all measures the Kingdom has taken to safeguard its sovereignty and the safety of citizens and residents.
The UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan issued separate statements strongly condemning the drone attack targeting the Kingdom.
