US President Donald Trump declared that Iran is "finished" and vowed that Tehran would receive "not ten cents" from the United States, claiming the war had devastated the country's military capabilities and left it without an air force, navy or key defence systems.

The US president also took aim at Democrats, mocking suggestions that Iran may be in a stronger position than it was months ago.

"Yet the Democrats say that Iran is better off now than it was four months ago. Can you imagine getting away with that??? How stupid can some people be???" Trump said.

Trump further asserted that Tehran, not Washington, had sought engagement following the conflict.

"We didn't meet out of desperation, Iran did. They are finished!" he wrote, signalling a hardline stance as diplomatic efforts continue.

The president added that the United States would continue with its current timeline and would not provide any financial relief to Tehran.

"We'll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents!" Trump said.

The remarks come a day after Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei took direct aim at US President Donald Trump, claiming the American leader was "desperate" for a deal and used "all kinds of leverage" to secure it.

In his first statement since the US-Iran draft deal was signed, Mojtaba told the Iranian people on Thursday that he initially opposed the deal "as a matter of principle" but eventually gave his approval after receiving assurances from President Masoud Pezeshkian and members of Iran's Supreme National Security Council that the country's interests and those of the "Resistance Front" would be protected.
