Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir on Friday (May 22, 2026) reached Tehran for a crucial visit to expedite efforts for a deal between the U.S. and Iran to end the war in the region, the Army said.
According to a statement issued by the Army, Field Marshal Munir’s visit is “part of ongoing mediation efforts”.
He spoke days after U.S. President Donald Trump said he was holding off on a military strike on Iran because “serious negotiations” were underway.
Mr. Rubio said he didn’t want to exaggerate the progress, saying there had been “a little bit of movement and that’s good.” He said the conversations were ongoing.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there was “slight progress” during talks with Iran amid uncertainty as to whether a deal will be reached or war will resume.
